JGF & the American Heart Association Join Forces

January 23, 2013 – The Happy Hookers used close to 60 skeins of yarn and donated weeks of their time to make red beanies that will be worn by local newborns on National Wear Red Day, February 1st. The Janet Goeske Foundation supplied the yarn for “Operation Red Beanie” which resulted in the creation of over 200 tiny hats that will be distributed to 18 local hospitals by American Heart Association volunteers.

The Happy Hookers are a knit and crochet group that meets every Thursday from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at the Janet Goeske Center located at 5257 Sierra St. Riverside, CA 92504. They volunteer hundreds of hours every year to make newborn caps and lap blankets. They were happy to accept the Go Red Challenge and help turn America Red from coast to coast.

The Go Red For Women® movement has been building momentum over the past 10 years but despite a lot of progress, there’s still a long way to go, heart disease continues to be the No. 1 killer of women (more than all types of cancer combined).
