Goeske Turns 30
Janet Goeske Foundation & Senior Center is proud to announce that we will be celebrating our 30th Anniversary on Sunday, May 18th from 12:00pm – 5:00pm. Community members of all ages are invited to join us at the Janet Goeske Center (5257 Sierra Street, 92504) as we commemorate this special occasion with a Vintage Carnival!
Janet Goeske, our founder and namesake, was a strong advocate and forward thinker when it came to senior issues. Because of her passion and ability to get things done she was appointed to several federal and state commissions on aging. One of her key initiatives was a program designed to inspect and report on nursing home conditions, the nationwide ombudsman program that exists today was modeled after her work.
At a time when Riverside had no dedicated senior centers, Janet envisioned a facility where those in their “advanced youth” could socialize, stay active, and find the resources they needed to improve their quality of life. “It’s wonderful when people come here and become happier,” she said. “I think it really helps us be healthier. I guess that’s what keeps me going. There’s always so much to do, so many opportunities.” On Friday, May 18 1984 her vision became a reality.
In celebration of Janet and 30 years of service “The Center” will be completely transformed for the day [May 18th] to accommodate a myriad of activities, including: Food, Carnival Games, Craft Fair, Car Show, Old-Fashioned BINGO, Kids ‘Korner’, and much more! Members of the Goeske Family, some of whom were present at the original dedication of the Janet Goeske Center in 1984, are scheduled to attend as well.
Tours of the facilities will be available in both English & Spanish for those who wish to learn more about us. One lucky person will win a Lifetime Membership (complete with community discounts and member rewards) generously provided by Riverside Medical Clinic. Other Door Prizes will also be announced throughout the day!
Come One, Come All! Join us as we celebrate turning 30 and say “THANK YOU” to the local community which has embraced and supported the Janet Goeske Foundation and our community seniors for so many years!
